Main Contractor: Triton Building Restoration
Engineer/ PD: Clarkebond
Duration: Approximately 1.5 years, different stages
Project Overview
Located in the heart of London’s Oxford Street, this iconic commercial building first opened in 1902 and was at the time of the restoration project, home to retail giants Arcadia, gym group and Next. Our specialist restoration and cleaning works formed part of an extensive refurbishment programme aimed at exposing and addressing the building’s underlying structural defects while preserving its architectural heritage.
Scope of Works
- Poultice cleaning: Applied to delicately lift embedded staining, and graffiti from masonry surfaces without causing damage to the substrate.
- DOFF cleaning: Conducted across the full 4 facades to remove surfaces contaminants and expose underlying building defects ahead of structural surveys.
- JOS cleaning: Selective to remove carbon deposits and biological matters, ensuring full restoration of the art deco façade’s character.
- Abrasive steel blasting: Steelwork blasted to SA 2.5 standard, achieving a clean surface profile suitable for coating adhesion.
- Zinga application steel treatment: Application of a Zinga zinc-rich system to treat steel members, ensuring long-term corrosion protection and compliance with specified micron thickness levels.
- Frame & Fixings Treatment: Addressing widespread corrosion of the original steel frame and ferrous fixings throughout the structure.
